So, here's a list of things I'm going to bring (unless I forget!)... hopefully it's not a bad idea to post this.
This list may change as we get closer to the date - or if I think of some additional things in the meantime
- 2 laptops - both older machines (PII's). One will be a BeOS/Haiku laptop (I haven't tried booting Haiku on it yet...we'll see) - and the other will be a machine I setup with both WLAN and 10mbit PC card configured as a NAT router - this will allow wired ethernet to access the wireless net access provided at the Picn*x location since BeOS/Haiku has such limited WLAN support...
- Netgear 10/100 8-port switch
- Linksys Wireless-G AP/router (just in case... shouldn't need this I hope)
- 8 CAT-5 cables of various lengths (whatever I can find lying around)
- Power strip for plugging in all my goodies
- Mini-DV video camera and a couple tapes
- decent digital still camera
Things I'd like to bring, but don't have (yet):
- Better laptop... I'll work on this.
- DVD/CD burner that supports lightscribe - external or whatever. This would be nice for burning CDs on the spot as needed. Unfortunately none of my laptops have USB 2.0 support - so this wouldn't do me much good - but perhaps someone else could. Lightscribe supported software would be needed though in order to write the labels.

My gear
This is what I plan to bring with me:
* HP Pavilion zv5000 laptop running Haiku (network and sound OK)
* A few network cables
* A couple of power strips
I hope to be able to show Haiku running the following apps (among others):
* BeShare (http://www.bebits.com/app/1330)
* Vision (http://www.bebits.com/app/2623)
* Jukebox (http://www.bebits.com/app/4434)
* FtpPositive (http://www.bebits.com/app/4457)
* CoveredCald (http://code.google.com/p/coveredcalc/)
* 2ch+ (http://code.google.com/p/nichanpositive/)
...plus Japanese input method and fonts.
I will have...
HP Compaq 6715b Laptop.
50 or so blank Lightscribe CD's (laptop has lightscribe burner)
I'm trying to get Ubuntu on the laptop now, and I'll do a Haiku build and see where that gets me.
Status
Ubuntu is on, having a problem building.... not sure why.
I'm working on that...

Make sure someone brings a Microphone and Headphones.
/me puts his Haiku Podcast hat on.
I wouldn't mind interviewing a few people, either live (if possible) or I'll ask the questions via IRC and people can record the answers as a WAV file and upload it to my FTP server (US based).

I have a labtec lva-8420 headset microphone I can bring. Someone else might want to bring a back-up in case it's seized by airport goons or somehow breaks between here and San Francisco.

I will have my webcam, which has a mic built in, so we may be able to use that too.
Maybe you can use the planned live video broadcast to do interviews?
What's it take?
To do the broadcast?
It's already setup
I have set it all up. All we have to do when we get there is hookup a webcam to a laptop, access ustream the and start broadcasting. :)
Hmm... based on the layout
Hmm... based on the layout pictures of the event, maybe I need to pack an extension cord.
Also, I think I have a headphone/microphone deal that came with my creative webcam - I'll grab it also.
